Thank you Graham! I enjoyed the challenge this month. Never did I dream I would be writing poetry much less a blog on Substack. I can't tell you how much I've been inspired in the last seven months by so many to share my heart and to really open me up in ways beyond my wildest dreams. I am truly, truly grateful. This month has been amazing in so many ways, and I thank you and this entire community! Blessings to you Graham, and this entire community! Oh, and by the way, the book is a wonderful and great idea. Absolutely love it!
I feel the same!!! I never would have thought I would be writing on substack. I just felt my writing was just insignificant and no one would care what I had to say. I thought it is just my thoughts and who would want to read what I wrote. I am blown away by all of you and how you liked what I wrote. That never happened before in my life. I just want to say to all of you that has written something on here that I have loved each and everyone of your writings. They were all great!!! I am thankful to Graham for giving us this place to write and encourage one another!! I love you all so much!
You said it Carolyn. We're a family here, and look what came out this month by a lot of us. For some of us, maybe it was always there, but it wasn't until now we could let whatever go and tap into that part we never knew was there. I know I can only speak for myself when I say that, but that's pretty much how it was/is for me. Encouragement is a key component like you said here. Amen girl. Thank you!
Anne. You are so special. I always love your poems. You are great with your words. Thanks for being so sweet and kind to me. I appreciate you so much. Good Luck with your writing. May God bless you.
Thanks Diana! I really appreciate that. I had another one to share this morning in case we were submitting again, but I'll share it soon on my blog. So many amazing blessings keep coming, especially this month. Words simply cannot express what I'm feeling right now. I'll take it, breathe it in, and let God guide the way no matter what. Take care and God bless you!
What a wonderful idea , a book with all the amazing poems that all the talented writers wrote in this challenge. It won’t be hard for you Graham to choose which poems to include in the book as we pretty much have an idea who your favourite writers are from the period of the 4 week challenge. I will definitely buy the book to support all the talented writers in this wonderful little community!! Also looking forward to hearing everyone read their poems at the group chat this Sunday. Thanks again for the August challenge, it was a pleasure to be part of it .🙏💜
Hi Irene, how are you? I understand that we will choose 1 of the 4 texts we send. And all that are sent in the email that Graham indicated and that then all will be published. I also thought he would choose, but le left it to us to choose. It was what I understood. Cheers.
Irene. I agree totally with you!! Yeah I am not a writer but I tryed. You always done so great with your writing. !! I looked forward to reading it. Good Luck with everything. God Bless you
Christine. I love this ! You do a great job with your writing!! Good Luck with your poems. I look forward to reading them. Sending you prayers and my love. Blessings
Thank you so much Patty. I am so humbled by your comment. I can't tell you how much your encouragement means to me. I love writing, but my confidence isn't great. Your comments have given me the boost to keep going. Thanks. 🙏💕
Graham thank you so very much for this challenge. I discovered something about myself. Upon reading you challenge at the beginning of the month, I threw my hands and said "I can't do this, I am not going to be able to participate in this". As the day went on I kept getting all these thoughts in my head, things I could write about. I came home, sat down and started to put my thoughts on paper. After scribbling, tear up, throw away, I came up with something I thought sounded okay. I submitted it got a good response, but the "Like" that I received from you Graham made me feel good about what I had done. I discovered that if I really wanted to do something, and I put my mind to it , I can do it!!!!!! So I continued each week with a new piece ,and the response helped me with my confidence. I shared what I wrote with my three adult daughters, go a thumbs up. Thanks again for forcing me out of my comfort zone. ❤❤
This is amazing idea Graham and I will definitely buy the book to support our talented writers. I will be off the grid this Saturday live zoom and hope I can get a signal so I can join in to see everyone. Take care everyone lots of love!🙏❤️
I will be gone this weekend too. Going to see my granddaughter that I haven’t seen for two years. But will watch the August chat later. I will miss seeing everybody, but very anxious to see family. Have a great meeting. Love to all.
Thank you Patty. I am so excited, I’ve even mapped out my small road trip several times, knowing I have a options if I miss A turn. I am very directionally challenged!! Love, prayers, and blessings back at you!
Thank you Deborah S! I am so excited to get to spend the weekend with my granddaughter, her husband, my daughter and her husband, my 28-year-old grandson, and we are celebrating my grandson’s 11th birthday, And my 75th birthday!! I am blessed indeed!!
Sadly, I'm out, too. With the holiday weekend here, we have plans for Saturday night. Can't wait to see the replays, though, and hear people share their writings.
Lucy. I agree with you!! I will buy the book to support all my friends in this community. !! They all are so kind and encouraging to me. Good Luck and have fun with what ever your plans are for the weekend. Love and Blessings to you
Linda. This is beautiful !! I am in the same boat. I am having a hard time getting on this chat with all this special group. I will try but I don’t know if it’s going to work out. Good luck if I do make it I will be watching for you. Blessings to you
Thanks for this August challenge, Graham. I really enjoyed participating in it, even in another language. Maybe one of my poems is good enough to include in the poetry book? No problem if it isn't. I have learned a lot. Thank you to everyone in this community for the nice comments and encouragement. I've loved it. I'm sorry I won't be able to join the group zoom this month. Life sometimes has its demands...I hope to be there next month. Lots of love to everyone🙏💕
What a fun idea for all the subscribers to be able to revisit each individual's favorite piece of writing. I have loved seeing all the submissions and so many taking on something new that is outside their comfort zone. Many found that they were writers afterall! Thanks, Graham, for the challenge and for always encouraging people to spread their wings.
Thank you Graham I must say I have to agree with Ann Wooten above never would I have thought I’d be writing an arts blog on Substack let alone writing poetry or prose. Thank you for all your inspiration and the opportunity to be able to do so and I want to say thank you to all the caring wonderful people that took time out of their day to read what I’ve written as well as my blog, thank you all for your loving and caring compliments and inspiring me to keep going on. ❤️🌹
On a more personal note, I want to say a HUGE thank you, to you - Graham - and also to this community. You have all inspired me to develop my skills in writing ✍️ and to put myself 'out there' both in the world and on substack. In the past 6 months I have grown in confidence, almost completed my own book and edited another that was published last week. I have started writing songs 🎵 again and am singing regularly at local events. Though I still struggle with online video etc I am working on it and have set up a 'podcast studio'. Anne Wooten gave me a boost with her sharing and I lost over 2 stone! I have made some deep and meaningful connections in this group and for that I will be forever grateful 🙏 The most important thing I've discovered, is that I love myself - the self I was created to be! That I am brave and strong and 'enough'. when just a year ago I was saying and feeling the opposite. This, to me, is the greatest miracle. I love you all 💜
Me and you are growing by leaps and bounds in this community. I am to so happy I’ve met Graham through this awesome community. As I said in my comment here, I don’t think I would of been able to do the things I’ve done. I have a Substack account, I’ve completed my first Tough Mudder I’m still sore LOL. I was just thinking yesterday, I was a pretty good drawer in my younger years. I think I’m going to start that up again. I also am writing a song thanks to Donny Mac. So I completely understand getting out of your comfort zone. More power to us all.
I didn't take part in the August Writing Challenge because I was on vacation during the last 3 weeks and especially in "internet detox"😉 .
During this vacation, I wrote a text inspired by wonderful people and beautiful landscapes.
I was encouraged to write this text by my host, Bie, who writes wonderfully well as you all know.
Originally, it's in French, I'll try to translate as best as possible...
Here is the text:
The life's hike.
Life is a long hike, sometimes full of sunshine on a beautiful and peaceful path with an amazing view an sometimes, it's made of difficulties in the drizzle on a slippery ground that makes us fall.
The main thing is to reach our destination, not to give up, to go above and beyond the pain, to have confidence in ourselves.
And, once at the top, whatever the weather and the path taken, what pride and what satisfaction !!! How beautiful is the view/life !!
So beautiful, Christelle! It is amazing how you describe our trips and compare them to real life. Yes, sometimes it was pure enjoyment and sometimes it was suffering. But we persevered without giving up. We have reached our goal, a beautiful mountain lake (What an wonderful Magic painting it was...). It was great to inspire and be inspired by you and Myriam. And look what a beautiful text you are writing now! Well done! You are realy amazing🙏💕
Graham, the August writing challenge has been so inspirational and rewarding. When I read the challenge in week one, I was hesitant as writing has always been a challenge for me, am so glad I took the step outside my comfort zone! Each week gained more confidence in writing, thanks to response from everyone in this writing community. Reading the writings each week and seeing the support and encouragement shared by everyone is amazing. Thanks for this writing challenge. By shining your light, Graham, who have inspired others to shine their light. Looking forward to the book...will you be writing a piece for the collection??..
I truly enjoyed this Graham. It spelled out the scenario of whats happening in my life. I was looking forward to another challenge this week to see where I was going to end up. That seems to be how I am finding out my life choices. Through your challenge. Thank You. I loved this.
Oh Shoot! I thought I was manifesting a night at Thoreau's Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts ~ sitting around a bonfire with Graham ~ cooking steaks, sipping on wine & sharing our poems. I must not have been clear enough or I skipped a step. Just kidding! Looking forward to taking part in this book project.
Thanks Graham. I have to say I have really come a long way !! I have never written like this. Before. It’s all because you inspired me so much. But I am praying for you to continue with us. In our community!! We all respect and admire you because of the beautiful person you are. I would be honored to have one of my writing in the book!! I sure would buy and support all my friends here. I feel like I have made so many beautiful friends. I really don’t want to lose all this great feelings Sending my prayers. Love and Blessings to everyone 🙏
Graham, once again I congratulate you on your August writin initiative. I loved participating and I will select a text to be included in the book, which I will definitely buy. I 'm Brazilian and unfortunately I don't participate in the Chat because I don't speak and understand the Englihs language. So my participation would be very limited. I would love to participate. I'm still going to learn English, haha. Many blessings to you. Cheers.

Thank you Patty! You are so kind! I’ll continue as long and how God leads. Take care and God bless you!
Thanks Diana! I really appreciate that. I had another one to share this morning in case we were submitting again, but I'll share it soon on my blog. You sure did a great job Susan. It was very hard for me as well. I think this challenge was a good exercise for our brain and mental health.
Just as a bit of fun. I thought I'd share a silly little poem I wrote. Hope you find the fun in it.
My Daggy Aussie Slang poem:
In the bush, on walkabout I go
A Lyrebird, makes a sound I know
A Kookaburra laughs, along the way
I look on up, and say, '' G'day".
On to the Billabong, for a cool dip
Put on my bathers, and in I slip
Crikey! What's that I see?
A Koala and her joey, in a gum tree
I walk back slowly and pack my boot
Now off to the farm, you little beaut!
Driving winding roads, and right on cue
Out jumps, a true blue kangaroo
The silly nong, just escaped
From being cactus, like the snake
Had buckleys chance, to swerve away
The snake carked it, where it lay.
Once at the farm, I get some chook,
Plus some googies, I can cook
Chook for tonight, an easy winner
Googies for brekky, and maybe dinner
Once at home, a call from Davo,
''Catch ya mate, just at the Servo.''
''No worries mate, but bring a slab.''
''She'll be right'', he answers back
In his ute, Davo waves with a smile,
"How ya going? Know it's been awhile."
He's brought the tinnies, a Sheila too
More blokes come, as I hit the loo
From the Barbie, comes a tasty waff
Hopefully my hard yakka, will soon pay off
The tucker is bonza, I have a good clue
The Aussie salute and Mozzies too
With the heat of late arvo, we go inside
To watch footy, and Barrack my side
"You little ripper!" I shout at the TV
The Blues score a goal, good onya 'C'
After heaps of fun, we're pretty stuffed
Everyone leaves, and I clean up
Been a ripper of a day, but really late
I'm off to bed, so, '' Hooroo mate".

I want so badly to be a part, and have been unable to get a start;
So much to say, so grateful for this day; since creative writing has always been at bay;
Trying now is very foreign and scary, want to quit before the masses are critical and leary;
Asking the Devine to help overcome this irrational fear, now friends and family will only cheer;
Because this success is now here, and I am a part of this group so dear.
Thank you
Linda. This is beautiful !! I am in the same boat. I am having a hard time getting on this chat with all this special group. I will try but I don’t know if it’s going to work out. Good luck if I do make it I will be watching for you. Blessings to you
