Firstly, I have to confess that when this podcast was first introduced, I thought, “Oh, another conversation about Bitcoin….” This conversation with Adam was so much more and I would love to hear his “Jesus is a Bitcoiner” presentation because it’s a very different take on a subject that I’ve already heard so much about.

In answer to your question about fearing God, my fear of God is respect and awe for His nature and attributes. His very essence is love so I’m not afraid of how He will relate with me. He doesn’t always spare me or rescue me from hard things in this life, but He walks beside me through them in the most loving ways. Adam gave a great description of understanding the power of God and not being fearful, but joining with God’s plan and knowing it’s best because of who God is and what He does - ultimate respect and trust.

This was an outstanding podcast, Graham and Adam! Thank you for this conversation that I will listen to again.

This was an amazing podcast. Adam shared so many practical and passionate thoughts about faith, guidance and living life to the fullest. He has such great energy. The discussion on the fear of God was very interesting. For me it is not fear but rather guidance from God on living and loving. The choices are mine, but God guides me in my path. I have a deep reverence and spiritual connection in listening to God’s wisdom. Thank you, Graham, for introducing us to Adam. Continued blessings on your journey.

Dear Graham,

I just enjoyed listening to your podcast with Adam O'Brien. You asked about our take on the "fear of the Lord". A delicate subject indeed.

I agree with Adam about the fear of missing out. Moreover, the book of Proverbs mentions that phrase so many times, including in the first lines where it says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. If you want to even begin to know and understand anything in life without being mistaken by what the world says about it or by what your heart might be inclined to believe in, the fear of the Lord is KEY!

If you haven't experienced first hand how amazingly He provides and protects, your fear of the Lord might be an uncomfortable feeling. But when you know how much He loves you, your fear of Him is more like a joyful letting go in His strong and tender arms.

Also, lack of "fear of the Lord" is the root of all our faults. Look at Adam and Eve, thinking they'd be like "gods" if they ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil (the only forbidden one in a full forest of tasty and beautiful ones ^^). We tend to want to reach for it every single day. Only the fear of the Lord will keep us from thinking we are His equal and will keep us as humble children under His wings, enjoying full freedom in His blessed frame.

I personally tend to test boundaries most of the time, but don't we enjoy boundaries when they keep us from others harming us?

Many blessings in your quest!

An amazing podcast…the conversation with Adam. My response to the question of “ fear of God”, my relationship with God is reverence and respect. It is like a child/ parent relationship, I look to guide for guidance and help along my journey, much like a child looks to their parents. I know God loves me for me, walks beside me, nudges me along my path and will guide me through the life.

Also wanted to add, I loved the fun intro and the filming location. Buffalo Lake has a long and sacred Cree history going back at least 10,000 years. Asini Wachi Nehiyawak (Mountain Cree) leader Joachim Fromhold researched and wrote several books on the Cree history of southern Alberta including the Buffalo Lake area, and including extensive information about my husband's Cree heritage of both the Cunningham and L'Hirondelle clans.

Graham, thank you so much for this wonderful podcast. You truly have a gift in connecting with such interesting and inspiring guests. Watching this podcast was the proverbial cherry on top of an amazing day for me. This morning was the day we celebrated Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion with 12 very special individuals. Several of those were the young men you and I discussed. I feel I connected on a deeper level thanks to your good counsel.

Regarding your question on the fear of the Lord, here's some of what I shared in Dia Utterback 's recent QOTD:

I fear the Lord in the sense of awe and great reverence. There are many references in scripture to the fear of the Lord. The context is in awe, humility and unbounding love. And throughout the Bible, there are 365 passages encouraging us to be not afraid. God is wanting to help us to draw nearer to Him through a healthy fear ... awe, reverence and humility.

As one example of the intended uplifting understanding of fear of God is this beautiful Psalm 33 that Catholics sing on Trinity Sunday.

Fear of the Lord is also seen in scripture as the fruit of wisdom, as in this passage of Job. This comes at the end of a long passage describing the awesomeness of God.

"God understands the way to wisdom and he alone knows where it dwells, for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. When he established the force of the wind and measured out the waters, when he made a decree for the rain and a path for the thunderstorm, then he looked at wisdom and appraised it; he confirmed it and tested it. And he said to the human race, 'The fear of the Lord -- that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding'."

One of the many things that Adam said that really resonated for me was he picturing his legacy of future generations. As Chris and I were not able to have children, I picture our legacy consisting of hundreds of beautiful people we have journeyed with on their path to Baptism, and their children ...

So grateful for you dearest Graham
