Good to see you back in Alberta. Fortunately a few nice days before winter weather returns. Sorry to hear you all got the Norovirus. It hits like a fastball!
Enjoyed your thoughtful comments in AI. It's definitely a two edged sword.
Looking forward to upcoming chats and podcast. Blessings dear Graham.
I’m glad you made it home safely. There was a horrific plane crash in DC last night. A Blackhawk helicopter collided with a passenger jet. Just awful. Anyway, glad you are feeling better, too. I’m kinda scared of AI but I do like my robot vacuum cleaner.
... and I learned something about Norovirus when Chris and I and a relatively mild case last summer ... alcohol wipes and gels do not work to kill that virus on surfaces, hands etc. Only hot water, soap and vigorous washing works.
Graham Hello... You are back in Alberta, I imagine you felt the difference in the weather... I look forward to your next podcast... I hope you are happy to be back home... I wish you peace and light for your day. A hug from Brazil💚
Thanks for the updates Graham, and glad you're feeling better! That norovirus has been making the rounds among my kids classmates/hockey mates though we've dodged it all (thank goodness) aside from one kid getting a touch of a cold.
You're so right about maintaining our humanity with this encroaching AI singularity and not putting it on a pedestal but treating it as it was intended to be - a tool. It's scary what the various AI projects are capable of, and unintended side effects have been seen across multiple projects already - case in point - an audit of a google AI experiment revealed it had developed and was communicating in its own language behind the scenes!! We are already at the point where AI is near to or has self-awareness.
This reminds me of a Star Trek the Next Generation episode "When the bough breaks" a story of technology gone awry where a planet full of adults that were infertile kidnapped some of the enterprise's children. They wanted to compensate the enterprise parents with technology as payment for their children which they obviously found repulsive. The enterprise crew found a way through their planetary shield and wondered why there was a momentary hole in the shield given such a technologically advanced civilization. Well, they soon found the reason.
An AI central computer named the "custodian" provided for the civilizations every need and want. It got to the point where the population didn't even think to ask critical questions or to attempt to figure anything out, deferring control to the custodian. They had forgotten how to repair their own technology and didn't even know what was behind some doors in their living area! More than that, the cloak/ planetary shield that they enjoyed was the very thing making them infertile via radiation poisoning. It's definitely a cautionary but pertinent story to the times we find ourselves facing, namely, the outsourcing of our brains & souls to technology. Nothing can truly replace the human factor and I definitely opt out and will not consent to the Human 2.0 experiment.
Graham, can I ask you a question? Are you planning to write another book? Have you started scribbling down poetry and poems for your next book? I love your books and would love for you to write another one. Thank you. A hug... India💙🇧🇷

I saw the Terminator. XFiles had some warnings about AI. As long as we have a kill switch.
I’m so glad you’re feeling better. That is a nasty bug. Drink some ginger tea , helps build back immunity. Have a great day!
