#2 Week challenge accepted 🙏

Everyone who knows me well knows how passionate I get when I’m out in the nature looking at a beautiful sunset.

My magic painting will have to have a calm blue ocean that gives me a peaceful feeling. The sunset will have different colors of the pallet, brilliantly red and orange, purples . No matter what the colors when you look at a glowing sunset your worries fade away , it brings you peace in your soul , you feel calm and serenity deep inside . 💜💚

Expand full comment

Well I wasn’t sure if I would post my magic painting question because mine is just about the same as yours Irene❤️. I don’t live by the ocean but am surrounded by lakes. My colors as blues and geeen just like Lake Superior when I get to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain in Marquette. My feeling is the same, peace, serenity and calmness. Great minds think alike. The saying in the UP of Michigan is 906 is Gods area code. I believe it because just sitting up on the that mountain and looking out I feel so much closer to him. 🙏

Expand full comment

Cheryl please post it , love your answer. Your description is amazing. So much better than mine, I really need to work on my writing, I want to get better at this , this is why I’m loving this challenge, I’m way out of my comfort zone. The Lake Superior and the Sugar Loaf must be a beautiful place to visit. I’m going to add it to my bucket list! I love the photos you shared on IG . 🙏

Expand full comment

I will post some pictures Irene from an amazing photographer 906 the sunrise and sunset is so beautiful and we were stationed there and my aunt still live there.

Expand full comment

Cheryl you should still post it yet add the pictures . The Lake Superior and Sugar Loaf Mountain is beautiful on sunrise and sunset. I still have my aunt live in Marquette and we were stationed there my husband was a Marine recruiter 1989-1992 also I went to NMU and finished in Minnesota. My housemate at Hope Lodge lives in Gwinn.

That’s awesome so you know how beautiful it is. If you go to my Instagram I posted some pictures from a top of Sugar Loaf. My youngest just left yesterday for his Junior year at Michigan Tech. I will probably head up in September for a visit.

My magic painting would be a short video clip from a visit I supervised with a child & her non-custodial parent.

I opened the front door

And there stood HOPE

A 2 ½ foot bundle of joy

Adorned with curly blonde hair

Dressed in a sparkly pink t-shirt

Carrying her Rainbow Mermaid

At the back door

There stood Dad

A 6 ft pillar of despair

Covered with bruises & dirty long hair

Dressed in his clothes from lockup

Carrying his release papers

“Daddy,” the joyful moppet squealed

As he kneeled down,

She threw her tiny arms around his tattooed neck.

For two hours that day

Dad had HOPE

This is so good. YES! I love this one. Thank you for sharing Jan 🙌🏼

Thank you! I enjoyed trying to bring this sweet, hopeful moment alive for others.

Oh, Tricia ~ of course, YOU can relate to my poem. As a volunteer, I can't do any counseling, just recording the visit for the attorneys & judges. I am so thankful for people like you. You have one of the most important jobs in the world -- healing broken little hearts. I pray God gives you the strength and rejuvenation needed for this work. Thank you! xoxo

Expand full comment

Thank you, Jan. I believe the same about you! Volunteers are the lifeblood because you are doing it out of complete gratitude. This is my career, so I have to constantly be checking in to make sure I am having a heart of gratitude for each little soul that walks in my door. Prayers for you as you are giving of your precious time. Thank YOU!

You are so right, Jody! I am so amazed how much love these innocent children have in them. I am blessed to help these struggling families. I love the kids!!!

I love kids too. I spent the majority of my teaching career working with kids with behavioral issues and I really enjoyed it. It was so rewarding to be a small part of their progress!

Expand full comment

Hey, Jody ~ my hats off to you. I saw those teachers who tackled those challenges everyday. My heroes! The majority of my career was working with Jr. & Sr English students -- trying to convince them they liked reading & writing. I'm not sure about my progress... Ha! Ha!

My Magic Painting

A picture of blue and white, like the sky and the sea

Is the best I could explain my painting to be

Full of movement, with a gentle breeze

The colours merge and separate for me

To see what's under and what's above

To feel the comfort of joy and love

To feel at peace as I float around

To feel light, at ease, not earth bound

To have the freedom to explore

What lies beneath forever more

I did mine as a poem as it just came from within me and very quickly. Blue is my favourite colour & being the colour of the sea & sky has a peace & tranquillity about it.

My painting has that feeling of floating, away from the earth. With that comes a peace, a freedom that I felt only once in my life. A car turned in front of me & there was nothing I could do. I was certain I was going to die. But I thought it's OK. I felt an all encompassing peace. Nothing else mattered. It was amazing. Of course I didn't die, but that peace I felt is the peace of my painting.

So nice, Christine. I love blue too!!

I've thought about my magic painting many times and even tried to write about it a time or two. I've seen it in real life on a couple special occasions and felt what I try to convey in this piece:

She wanders the gallery room by room, appreciating each piece of someone’s soul expressed in different styles, colors, patterns, trying to imagine what each artist wanted to convey, but not connecting with their intent. She enters a darkened room where a single painting seems to glow and move. It draws her; she moves closer, feeling warmth, peace. The painting depicts the sun setting over the ocean; soft colors of gold, coral and blue over turquoise swells stirred by a warm breeze. She’s mesmerized by movement and shifting color. She suddenly feels a sense of deep fulfillment akin to having arrived at a destination, helping someone in need, accomplishing a dream, being in God's flow. Her heart is full and free. She feels transported to an isolated beach with pristine white sand, cool water washing over her feet, a warm breeze ruffling her hair. She never wants to leave.

I love the point of view you used for this and the way you embedded it in a story!

Expand full comment

Thanh you!

Expand full comment

Thanks, Aimee. Had fun with it.

Expand full comment

I love this, Cathey. It makes me never want to leave that place also!!

Expand full comment

So very descriptive Cathey. It draws one into the warmth of the sunset & the coolness of the ocean all at once.

Expand full comment

I feel the same way about the ocean and the peace it brings. Love your magic painting!

Expand full comment

Unfortunately I don't live close to the ocean, but try to visit once a year. It's always so inspiring!

Expand full comment

The ocean is inspiring from crashing waves on rocks, roaring surf upon the sand and gravel pulling back and making an incredible sound ( oh to put it to words) to the quiet lapping of the ocean upon the sand. It is all so wonderful!

Expand full comment

It's funny how the beach seems to draw us in. Love this Cathey.

Expand full comment

Definitely a lot of ocean in so many magic paintings! 😊

Expand full comment

Oooooo such a delightful painting that draws you in and takes you there.

THE TREE

A small Tree

Decades old

Stunted growth

Stuff buried deep down

Blocking roots from growing

Stopping full potential

Free Roots for growth

To be a shelter from the storms

To bear fruit for nourishment

To create shade when hot

Potential to be what it was created to be

A flourishing Tree

That Tree is me.

This rainbow is my magic painting. God provided this rainbow as an answer to prayer. It represents forgiveness, faith, hope, joy, guidance, and HIS unfailing love. The rainbow’s bright colors have a way of inspiring me, and this picture is a reminder that God is the constant guiding force for me. Hope leads to joy; joy brings love; forgiveness leads to faith, and faith leads to guidance. The feeling of guidance and knowing it comes from God is powerful. It feels like a gentle tug of the heart that is so powerful and at times overwhelming. It pulls you into that rainbow and provides security; it gives you faith to move forward. Faith is not knowing the outcome but trusting God he will light the path. The day God forgave me and provided that rainbow has led me to where I’m at today and brings me out

of my comfort zone.

Good morning Graham and happy Tuesday . My magic painting will be from my experience seeing the bright lights. The light didn’t shine on the water but mysteriously shone within it somehow. The iridescent grass stretched endlessly over gently rolling hills upon which we’re sprinkles the most colorful wild flowers. The flowers fascinated me a delightful and delicate balance between diversity and unity .Each petal and leaf illuminated with that glorious light added just the right splashes of color to the velvety expanse of green grass. They were richer , deeper more luminescent than any colors I have ever seen in the farthest reaches of earth or in the most fantastic. They were so vibrant they pulsated with life. Cheers!

As I listened many time to Graham's Podcasts and heard all the magic painting described I always knew mine would have something to do with the beach. So,here it goes!!

TRANQUILITY

Peace and calmness of a beautiful tropical beach

The tranquility of Mother Nature surrounding me

It is very early in the morning

Golden sunrise over the aqua blue ocean

The "Birds of Paradise " are awaking with many colors

Say "Good Morning " to me

White puffy clouds moving through

The baby blue sky

Palm trees abounding waving in the wind🌴🌴

They speak to me

Could be any place Hawaii, Mexico, Aruba

Anywhere I have been

As I walk on the beach

The ocean breeze blows through my hair

And caresses my skin

The fine grains of sand tickle my feet as I walk the beach

Seagulls flying overhead

As the day ends the sunsets with vibrant shades of pink and purple

This painting on my wall

Is a constant reminder of God's creations and

My "Happy Place " when I can't always be there🌴🌴

Expand full comment

Awesome Kathleen🙌🏼

How would you explain this feeling of tranquility in your body to someone who might have never felt it before or set foot in a location such as you described?

Expand full comment

Tranquility by definition is a state of quietness, stillness, peace, serenity etc.

Very early in the morning, with no other people around , I can sit and take in all the beautiful things I described here in QUIETNESS!!!! Even if only momentarily, l can free myself from my worries and troubled emotions, and feel PEACE. Taking in the beautiful of the place I described does this for me because I love it here. For others it could be different things or places. Thanks Graham. ❤ This whole process of writing has showed me that I can step out of my comfort zone. Even if only in a small way I can do something I never thought I could do.

Nature’s Beauty - The Frio

As springs allow the gift from nature to let go,

this icy cold water continues to flow over the rocks below.

The sun shines bright bringing warmth to the soul

as the icy cold water numbs the toes.

While children open their fist exposing hands full of rocks,

baby minnows find shelter from the tree’s exposed parts.

The floaters have fun following 1 by 1 through the man-made chutes

oblivious to the predicament that downstream will bring.

My magic painting is in front of me now with the beauty God made for our eyes to adore.

This feeling of contentment makes me feel at peace and complete,

Gratitude surrounds me and I have to ask, Am I in Heaven, I am so blessed.

Expand full comment

Yes! Love this Vicky 🙌🏼

Expand full comment

Thanks Graham, the Frio is close to Austin, so you may want to go float if you get to visit Texas.

Expand full comment

I’m glad you were able to learn about your family history from your mom. It is so important so you can pass it down. I wish I would have listened better to my grandparents. I’m trying to learn as much as I can from what my mom remembers.

Expand full comment

That’s amazing that you are doing that! We tried to get Mom to write down and voice record a bunch of stuff years ago but she never made the time unfortunately.

Expand full comment

We need to do a rain dance 1st to make it rain for days in central Tx😂🙏🏻🤞

Expand full comment

Vicky, have you been to Garner State Park? The Frio runs right through it. Graham, It’s a great place to camp and has RV hook ups 😁

Expand full comment

Yes, but never stayed there. We stayed in Concan. I wish the water level was not so low, I want to go now. We need rain😩

Expand full comment

Ah okay, a little South of Garner. My Mom was born in Uvalde so we went a few years ago to see where that side of the family is buried and she wanted to show me the old pecan mill our cousins owned. That was when we stayed at Garner.

I know! We were going to tube in San Marcos but it’s ucky. Someone needs to write a poem about it raining for days in Central Texas!

My magic painting is a mountain landscape

High mountain peaks in the backdrop

One last bit of snow

A spring rises

and silver water ripples down

Green meadows

decorated with wild flowers

red, purple, yellow, white…

Butterflies flutter

Bees buzzing

A rock is invitingly waiting

for someone

who takes the time

to sit in stillness

and enjoy

I look at this painting

and my heart overflows

with gratitude and appreciation

for God’s creation here on earth

My painting is a feeling of becoming whole through all the challenges and blessings of life.

As your eyes rise from from the torn edges at the bottom of the canvas, there’s a girl who has fallen to her knees with her arms outstretched above, consumed by the pitch black of a nothingness night and nothing in sight.

As your eyes look upward, it makes way for silhouettes of mountains and rivers in the distance behind a pathway of trees gently swaying in the wind under a milky blue sky, scattered with stars gently lighting the way like lightning bugs, pushing the darkness of the night behind her. Catching glimpses of the falling stars and making little wishes.

As your eyes rise to the top of the painting, it’s immersed in bright white beams of light, signifying the smile gracing her face from below and her heart expanding with gratitude and joy for a new life outlook bathed in sunshine, warmth, goodness, light, love and a promise of another day in her journey filled with endless opportunities, gratefulness and trust of the internal guidance.

Good morning Graham. I’m excited to share with everyone my magic painting.

My magic painting picture would be a picture of the ocean. Waves rolling into shore. The sun glistening on the water. Seagulls soaring high above. Dolphins passing by in silence. So beautiful.

So peaceful. Close your eyes and listen. Listen to the sounds. Let all the noise in your life disappear. Feel the tranquility and solitude. Let the ocean be your healer.

I really like the idea Mandy Morris had for her magic painting which was a painting you can step into. I would definitely like to be able to step into my painting when life gets a little overwhelming. Just a walk on the beach , for me, makes me see things clearer. Makes you appreciate life and brings me happiness.

Hope everyone enjoys their magic paintings.

Take care my friends! 🙏❤️

Rays of Hope

I experienced a living magic painting several years ago.

My feelings were surrounded with hope, warmth, and peace of heart.

I had just finished a grueling divorce case and the sudden death of my Dad.

I was lost and I did not know where to turn. I felt so all alone.

I was walking on the beach one October afternoon. The day was cool and sunny. The sky was filled with fluffy-white clouds and sun beams peaking out behind them.

I sat at the end of the beach where the waves meet my toes. I was gazing at the sky

and started to imagine those rays were God’s arms reaching down and holding me as my sobs became louder and my body’s shaking became uncontrollable.

He held me and let me tears flow until there no more left.

I felt my anger, frustration and despair lifted from my shoulders.

I was able to drive home with peace in my heart and hope for the next day.

Whenever I see rays of sunshine it reminds me of that special day I had with God.

That is so awesome! I love the image of the sun rays being God's arms.

So beautiful. I had a similar experience when I was estranged from my eldest son. I cried out to God - if you really exist, help me now! - and I felt this awesome presence and heard an audible voice saying 'I love you - I've always loved you and I will always love you' so amazing. Only time I've ever experienced that.

My Magic Painting

The beautiful painting I admire upon my wall radiates a feeling of joy, true joy, which is more than a simple feeling of happiness. It is a feeling of great pleasure so deep inside that nothing compares. This joy continues to appear throughout your life to bless you when you least expect it.

To me, it seems almost indescribable, but here are some examples from life.

Hearing that first special “I love you”.

Meeting your newborn son for the first time.

A groom’s first look at his bride as she walks down the isle.

Seeing a student excel beyond all expectations.

Receiving a very special, unexpected gift.

Feeling God in the quiet times.

With this joy comes a great sense of peace so my painting would include a stunning sunset over the mountains with a cabin in the woods. There I could feel God’s presence and love surrounding me forever.

My Magic Painting would be ......

I’m walking along the rocky Cornish coast, it’s windy and it’s wild, I breath in the salt air. Scattered with pirate coves where my dog loves to run and bring back driftwood, the sound of the waves moving in and out of the shore line bring me a feeling of peace. The sea grass scattered thru out the white sand, moving with the wind. I look up the sandy slop thru the hedgerow of wild flowers, I see my cottage facing the ocean from on top of the slop, as I walk along this craggy coast of England, I feel like I can breathe I feel at peace with myself and have a feeling of a gentle kind of loneliness that makes me feel one with the earth and God
